It's a common sight these days to see children playing games like Call of Duty and Halo much earlier than when they're supposed to. Like movies and TV shows, video games are rated for their content by the ESRB. The problem is that a significant portion of parents either do not know about or choose to ignore these ratings. This puts games with mature content in the hands of impressionable children. The ratings are in place for a reason. Many adults also do not control the amount of time their children spend playing games, unknowingly setting the stage for possible addiction. So rather than blaming games for negative consequences like aggressive behavior and addiction, a focus should be put on parents and how they control what games their children have and how often they play them.
